Boys Super 60 The Boys Sacramento Super 60 players showed some talent at Natomas high in Sacramento Sunday afternoon. Players competed at a high level and I was able to locate a sleeper that the college coaches should put on their evaluation list for the upcoming season.
Ryan Sypkens 6’3” Class of 2009 Franklin High School is a very athletic slashing scorer makes plays at both ends of the floor; he’s a true “sleeper” wing in the 2009 class. This young man is a major Division 1 prospect waiting to explode.
Sypkens has good range on his jumper from 17-22 feet, but he’ll need to learn how to tempo out a game if he’s going to run the show at the point guard spot. I like the way he has a feel for the game in the crunch time and he reminds me of the former first round draft pick, Lester Conner’s of the Golden State Warriors.
If Sypkens develops a dribble entry kick pass that sets up his players to catch and shoot; he’ll be a good fit for the Pac 10. His defensive game makes him ready for Division 1 and his long arms will shut down the best offensive threats.
Sypkens doesn’t make many mistakes or make players take bad shots in the open the court by forcing them to dribble after the catch. His game is 94 feet long and he has some heart to take on all competition.
Girls Super 60
The Girls Sacramento Super 60 was a wide open game of basketball. There were a lot of talented players transitioning up and down the floor that were not used to playing together in their second week of competition. The Girls Media Guides were not available at game time, which made it a little tough to track the players. I scouted 4 of the 6 teams and I’ll follow the Girls event closely to give it a true evaluation.
Cheyenne Williams 5’10 Class of 2010 Casa Roble High School was the one player that stood out in the crowd. She’s a talented freshman that came to showcase her skills against the JBS Sports Summer Travel Club. She held her own and scored very easily against a team of juniors and seniors. I like the way she displayed soft hands around the basket, and the ability to finish tough shots off the glass.
Williams showed some speed in transition game and she loves to slash into the open lanes for easy baskets. The good news is she has 2 years to improved mid-range shooting game in the half court offensive sets, which will be a must to get on the Division 1 coaches evaluation list.
